How Does the Consent Settings Work?
Choose how tenants are told about recording
Go to Settings → Recording & consent, then pick a consent method:
- Pre-call announcement — callers hear "This call may be recorded" before the call connects. This is the recommended option.
- One-time SMS notice — a text is sent to a tenant automatically the first time they call your number.
- In the tenancy agreement — you've already covered consent to recording in your signed tenancy agreement, so no in-call announcement or text is needed.
Only one method is active at a time — whichever you select is what's used for every call to that property.
Storage and retention of recordings is shown read-only nearby in the same settings screen, and is managed by your plan rather than something you set yourself.
Frequently asked questions
What are the consent settings for?
TenantCall can record tenant calls for your own record-keeping, as well as for designation and call classification purposes, and the consent settings control how tenants are told about that. You choose one of three methods: a spoken announcement before the call connects, a one-time text sent the first time a tenant calls, or relying on a clause already in your signed tenancy agreement. Whichever method you pick, TenantCall handles delivering that consent message for you automatically on every relevant call, so you don't have to say or send anything yourself each time.
Am I allowed to record tenant calls?
Recording calls with tenants for your own record-keeping as a landlord is legal, provided the person on the call is made aware the call may be recorded — which is exactly what TenantCall's consent settings are for. Landlords who want specific legal advice for their own circumstances should still consult a solicitor, but for the general case of keeping a record of tenant conversations, informing the tenant via an announcement, text, or tenancy agreement clause is the standard way to do it properly.
